Define (DMAIC Phase)

Six Sigma

First phase of Six Sigma DMAIC where the team defines the problem, project scope, customer requirements (VOC), and business case. Key deliverables include project charter, SIPOC diagram, Critical to Quality (CTQ) characteristics, and preliminary process maps. Answers the question 'What is the problem and why does it matter?' Similar to A3 Background and Theme sections but with more formal documentation. A poorly defined problem in this phase undermines all subsequent analysis and improvement efforts.
