D1 (Establish the Team)

First official 8D discipline focused on assembling a cross-functional team with the process knowledge, product expertise, and authority to solve the problem. Team typically includes 3-8 members representing quality, engineering, manufacturing, and affected departments. Requires a Champion (sponsor) to provide resources and remove barriers. Unlike A3 which can be individual work with coaching, 8D explicitly requires team collaboration from the start.
